Driftwood, TX – Driftwood house fire killed an elderly woman and severely burned her husband, authorities say.

According to the details, the fire erupted before dawn in a Hays County home where an old couple was sleeping.

A close friend and neighbor who attempted to offer help said the house was high up in flames and it was coming from the open windows and everything. The old homeowner, somehow managed to escape it but his 74-year-old wife could not be saved.

The estimated loss is said to be $180,000.

Cause of the fire is not known.
